The Chicago Bulls waived Drew Peterson and three other training camp invitees on Friday, trimming the group after their preseason ended and leaving the club essentially set for its October 21 opener. Brandon Boston Jr., Orlando Robinson and Jalen Bridges were also let go after the Bulls finished their preseason slate.
The move matters because Peterson had been one of the clearest candidates for the last two-way opening. He was among the four training camp invites waived after the Bulls' victory over a short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves squad, and the team has already filled the third and final two-way spot with Jordan Hawkins. That leaves little room for a late shake-up, even with the regular season still days away.
The Bulls entered camp looking for more backcourt depth and shooting, and Peterson fit that need well enough to stay in the conversation. He has prior two-way experience and a long-range shot that gave him a case for the final spot, while Brandon Boston Jr. also had been viewed as one of the stronger options. Bryson Graham had crossed paths with Boston in New Orleans during the 2024-25 season, but that did not change the outcome once camp ended.
The expectation is that all four waived players will make their way to the Bulls' G League affiliate, which would keep them in the organization unless another team offers Peterson a two-way deal. That is the open door now: he was in the mix for Chicago's last two-way job, but the Bulls chose another route, and the next move could come from somewhere else before the season opens on October 21.
