Thompson High School said Monday that its final home football game of the 2026 season will not be played, ending the school’s regular-season home schedule without the matchup it had planned against Choctawhatchee High School.

The cancellation matters now because it changes the closing stretch of Thompson’s season and was announced on the day families would have been looking ahead to the final home game. Thompson Athletics said the decision affects a contest that had been set for a team from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and leaves the school without the game it had expected to host at the end of the regular season.

Thompson Athletics said Hurricane Isaias hit the Gulf Coast on Friday, Oct. 9, and that Choctawhatchee High School is still dealing with lingering effects from the storm, including scheduling conflicts. In a statement, Thompson Athletics said it had tried to explore alternative arrangements, but multiple circumstances made it impossible to play the contest as originally scheduled, and it also could not line up any new opponent or another contest.

That leaves the canceled game as more than a one-off scheduling change. It is the final regular season home date that will not happen, and for now there is no confirmed replacement on the calendar.

Thompson Athletics said it is still looking ahead to the possibility of a home playoff game, which would give Thompson High School another chance to play at home later. But for the regular season, Monday’s announcement closed the door on the matchup with Choctawhatchee High School and on the home finish the team had expected.

“Our thoughts remain with the Choctawhatchee High School community and all those impacted by Hurricane Isaias,” Thompson Athletics said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding and continued support as we navigate circumstances beyond our control.”
