Aaron Boone will return as the Yankees’ manager in 2027, giving the club continuity in the dugout and setting him up for a tenth season on the job. Boone was already under contract for 2027, so the immediate question now is not whether he stays, but whether the Yankees will add another extension before that season begins.

That matters because Boone has already spent nine seasons steering the Yankees, and his record is not the issue. He is 790-565, with winning marks in every season, three AL East titles and eight playoff appearances. The 2024 pennant was his deepest postseason run, but it also came against a larger backdrop that has hung over the Yankees for years: no championship since 2009.

For Boone, the news lands after another October exit and after a job that has repeatedly survived the same test. The Yankees were swept by the Rays in the ALDS in October 2026, following the 2025 ALDS loss to the Blue Jays and the five-game World Series defeat to the Dodgers after their trip to the 2024 World Series. Boone still has support inside the clubhouse, including Aaron Judge, who said he had never truly doubted him as a manager.

That backing has not erased the frustration around the results. The Yankees are 1-2 in three ALCS trips under Boone, and critics have pointed to postseason losses that featured sloppy defensive play. Even so, Hal Steinbrenner has not signaled that he is unhappy with Boone or Brian Cashman, and Cashman’s contract ends after the 2026 season while he is expected to reach a new pact and return for a 30th season as general manager.

The practical wrinkle is Boone’s status after 2027. He is technically set for that season already, which means the Yankees can let him enter it without a fresh deal or choose to extend him again this offseason and avoid a lame-duck year. Given how often the organization has chosen continuity with Boone, and how little indication there is of a change in direction, the likeliest outcome is that the Yankees keep the same two men running the baseball side into 2027 and beyond.
