Burke Nihill apologized to Tennessee Titans fans on Friday and stood firmly behind Mike Borgonzi and Robert Saleh after the team opened 0-5. Speaking with 's Turron Davenport with clearance to do so on behalf of Amy Adams Strunk, the Titans CEO said the organization believes the pair will pull the club out of its slump and back to competitive football.

Nihill's message landed after a loss that pushed the Titans deeper into the same hole they have been digging for years. Tennessee is winless through five games in 2026 and entered Week 6 last in points and yards, a brutal position for a franchise that has not had a winning season since 2021 and has gone 6-33 since 2024.

He did not dress up the start. Nihill said the first thing he would tell fans is that the organization is sorry, adding that there is a sense of grief inside the building because everyone feels the responsibility to deliver. He said the team has let fans down because football is supposed to be fun, and he called 0-5 not nearly good enough.

That apology mattered because it came with a message of continuity, not change. Nihill said there is organizational belief in Borgonzi and Saleh and that the Titans have all the support they need to get the train moving faster. He said he personally feels a sense of stability and believes the two are ultimately going to get the team out of the woods, even as the results keep piling up against them.

The gap between the words and the scoreboard is hard to miss. The Titans lost 24-20 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, fell by 5 points to the New York Giants, and then were beaten 24-18 by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4 after trailing 24-7. Their latest defeat, a 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans, sharpened the pressure on a regime that already followed one coaching change with another and has now watched the season spiral without a win.

For now, the clearest takeaway is that the Titans are not signaling a shakeup. Nihill's public apology was the club's strongest acknowledgement yet that the start has been unacceptable, but his backing of Borgonzi and Saleh points to patience rather than a reset. The question left hanging is whether that support survives if the losses keep coming.
