Marvin Harrison Jr. will make his debut with the Texans in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and for the first time in his NFL career he will be wearing a different uniform than the Arizona Cardinals. It is the kind of change fantasy managers had been waiting to see, because Harrison Jr. is entering a spot that should give him more chances than he had in Arizona.

The appeal is obvious. Houston already has Nico Collins, but the team’s passing game does not stop there. Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel each have more than 150 receiving yards and double-digit receptions, which means Harrison Jr. is stepping into a group that can move the ball in more than one way. Even so, he is still the designated WR2, and that matters because volume is the difference between a useful start and a lineup decision that looks better on paper than it does on Sunday.

Jacksonville helps explain why this matchup is drawing attention now. Through five games, the Jaguars have given up 266.2 passing yards per game, the third-most in the NFL, and they have allowed the eighth-most PPR fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers. That is the type of defensive profile that can turn a first game in a new uniform into an immediate fantasy conversation, especially when the player in question is moving into a slightly better volume spot than he had before.

But the same defense has not been soft everywhere. Jacksonville is tied for allowing the third-fewest touchdowns to opposing wide receivers with two, which leaves a narrow path for a big scoring day if the targets do not come with efficiency. That is where the uncertainty lives for Harrison Jr. Houston has enough receiving depth to spread the work around, and that could keep him from seeing the kind of target total fantasy managers usually want in a debut.

Germie Bernard’s Week 5 line offered a useful reminder of how quickly usage can shift inside an offense: six receptions on nine targets for 80 yards, plus a season-high 92% snap share against the Indianapolis Colts. Harrison Jr. does not need that exact workload to matter, but he does need enough passing volume to separate himself from the rest of Houston’s target tree. If that happens, the matchup gives him a real chance to deliver right away. If it does not, his first game with the Texans may be more about the promise of a better situation than the production itself.
