Patrick Mahomes said he forgot Halloween was coming because his mind is on the Kansas City Chiefs, the season and the week ahead. He said Brittany had to bring it up first, leaving the three-time Super Bowl MVP catching up on a family plan he had not made yet.
The timing matters because the Kansas City Chiefs are in the middle of a Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, and Mahomes’ attention is fixed on that stretch. He said he is so locked in on this week and the season that Halloween simply slipped past him, even with three young children at home.
That family reality gives the comment its edge. Mahomes and Brittany have Sterling, 5, Bronze, 3, and Golden, 21 months, which means Halloween is not a small thing to forget. Still, he said he had not even thought about costumes until Brittany asked what they were going to do. He did not have a final answer ready, only that there are multiple options and a few possibilities he knows about.
The football side is part of why the home side feels rushed. Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice are dealing with injuries, and Mahomes said younger receivers such as Cyrus Allen and Jalen Royals could be asked to take on larger roles. He said they should be ready because they have put in the work at practice, and he added that he has a lot of trust and confidence in them. In that sense, the week is not only about preparing for Los Angeles. It is also about adjusting the offense around whoever can step in and do the job.
Mahomes’ admission fits a larger pattern of a season that has demanded his full attention. He said his focus has been narrowed by the grind of the NFL schedule, and the same sort of load has shaped his recovery after an ACL tear in December 2025. For now, the unresolved part is domestic rather than football-related: which costume the children will wear, and whether Brittany and Mahomes settle on one choice or use one of the backups he said they already have in mind.
