A military service member was hospitalized after falling while rappelling before the UTSA football game at the Alamodome, turning a pregame military demonstration into a medical emergency just before 7 p.m.

The fall happened in front of spectators during the Roadrunners’ Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans night, when the team was playing Navy. Witnesses said UTSA staff moved around the service member quickly as medical attention was given, and the band stopped performing after the fall.

Adrian Corey said the moment came right as the band started playing. He said, “Once the band started playing, there was a guy that fell down,” and that he “started coming down fast.” Corey said the crowd went silent after that, adding, “Everybody was quiet, the band stopped performing,” and “everybody was dead silent.”

That silence carried another uncertainty. Witnesses said prayers were being requested, but the service member’s condition was still unknown at the time of the report. Siomara Corey called it “a very sad moment and we don’t know (his condition),” and said there were “no updates after that other than asking for prayers, but it did not look good.”

The demonstration involved three other officers, and the fall happened during a night built around honoring the military and veterans. KSAT said it had reached out to the University of San Antonio and its athletics department for more details and had not yet received a response. For now, the central fact is plain: a public salute before a UTSA game ended with one service member in the hospital and a crowd waiting for news that had not yet come.
