St. Louis CITY SC heads to Allianz Field on Saturday with history within reach. A win or draw against Minnesota United FC would extend the club’s regular-season unbeaten run and put it in position to break the MLS mark of 19 games set by the 2004 Columbus Crew.
The matchup starts at 3:30 p.m. CT and streams on Apple TV, arriving just days after CITY SC’s scoreless draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC sealed a playoff berth for the first time since the club’s inaugural 2023 season. That result also pushed CITY SC’s unbeaten streak across all competitions to 21 matches, a run that has turned a late-season road trip into a record watch.
Kelvin Yeboah is the player most likely to shape Minnesota’s part of the night. He scored his 16th goal of the season against Colorado and has now recorded at least one goal contribution in nine consecutive matches, a stretch that has kept Minnesota in games even as results have lagged. Minnesota United FC enters the meeting with a 7-12-10 record, 31 points and an eight-match winless run, sitting 13th in the Western Conference after Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with the Colorado Rapids.
St. Louis has already shown it can handle this opponent. On September 12, CITY SC beat Minnesota 4-2 at Energizer Park behind two goals from Rafael Navarro, plus strikes from Carlo Holse and Daniel Edelman. That was only the second victory ever over Minnesota for St. Louis, though the club also won its first visit to Allianz Field during its inaugural 2023 season, giving it a recent history of finding answers in this matchup.
The wrinkle is that the record chase is not quite the same as the unbeaten streak already in the books. CITY SC’s 21-match run across all competitions is an MLS record, but the league’s regular-season standard still belongs to Columbus, and that is the number Saturday’s result must pass to become history. With five regular-season matches left, St. Louis can leave Minnesota with a new benchmark or with the same unfinished business it carried north.
Either way, the night has real stakes for both sides. CITY SC is playing with the freedom of a playoff team and the pressure of a club chasing a line in the record book, while Minnesota is trying to stop its slide before the final stretch becomes even harder to manage.
