Week 6 Start Em Sit Em: Brock Purdy is a must-start vs. Commanders

Week 6 fantasy managers looking for quarterback help get a clear answer: Brock Purdy belongs in starting lineups against the Commanders. He is coming off a 16.16-point outing against the Seahawks, but that slightly down week has not changed the bigger picture, because his production and the matchup still line up in the same direction.

Purdy has thrown a league-high 13 touchdown passes and sits top five in passer rating, completion percentage over expected, success rate and EPA per dropback. That profile matters now because Week 6 is when fringe quarterback decisions start to harden, and this one is not close if you are comparing him with safer-volume names like Kirk Cousins or boom-or-bust options that have not shown enough to trust.

The Commanders are the reason the call gets even louder. They have allowed at least 24 fantasy points to all but one quarterback they have faced this season, which means opposing passers have not needed a perfect game to pay off. That kind of steady allowance is exactly what fantasy managers want when they are deciding whether to take a ceiling play or settle for a floor.

There are other useful Week 6 reads in the quarterback pool, but the gap between Purdy and the field is built on both form and opponent. Jordan Love posted 25.28 fantasy points against the Bears in Week 5, Matthew Stafford has been uneven but mostly strong for fantasy, and Bryce Young returned from his Week 5 bye leading quarterbacks in passing yards per game at 317.0 while ranking fourth in fantasy points per game at 22.66. Those are the names that keep the decision tree busy. Purdy is the one who makes it simple.

That is also what separates him from some of the week’s other starts and sits. Cousins is tied for second in the NFL with 12 touchdown passes and the Bills have already allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks, including 26-plus fantasy points to three straight passers. The Cardinals have also given up 18-plus fantasy points to four straight quarterbacks. The numbers point to usable fantasy spots all over the board, but Purdy’s combination of efficiency, touchdown output and matchup gives him a firmer edge than most.

The friction point is that his last game was not his cleanest. He threw his second interception of the season against the Seahawks and finished with 16.16 fantasy points, which is respectable but not the kind of number that forces fantasy managers to stop thinking. Even so, the larger body of work still says he is a must-start, because one quieter week does not outweigh a season built on top-tier passing metrics and touchdown production.

Bo Nix shows the other side of the same decision process. He has one game with 15-plus fantasy points this season, and his 5.8 yards per attempt and -4.1% completion rate over expected are both bottom four among qualified quarterbacks. His 37.2% success rate is dead last. The Seahawks have made things even harsher for quarterbacks, allowing just 12.5 fantasy points per game and a league-low 5.5 yards per attempt, which leaves Nix in the kind of spot fantasy managers can move away from immediately.

That is why Week 6 start em sit em is not really about chasing labels. It is about identifying where the numbers are forcing the decision for you. Purdy gets the best blend of form and opponent in the group, and the Commanders have spent the season making quarterbacks look playable, if not comfortable. For fantasy managers, that is enough to start him without hesitation and enough to keep looking hard at the rest of the board.
