The Seahawks placed Jadarian Price on injured reserve Saturday because of a chest injury, a move that strips him from the lineup for at least the next four games and shifts the rushing load to Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani. Seattle also signed Velus Jones from its practice squad in a corresponding move.
Price had started each of Seattle's first three games, but the production never quite matched the workload. He gained 119 yards on 28 carries, played 35.8% of the offensive snaps and lost a fumble in back-to-back outings, even while splitting time with Wilson and Holani. That made his place in the backfield useful but not secure, and the injury now turns a limited role into an open absence.
The timing matters because Price first hurt the chest in Week 2, then aggravated it in practice this week, forcing Seattle to act on Saturday rather than wait for the problem to settle. For a player already on a week-to-week path, the decision to use injured reserve is the clearest sign that this is more than a short scare.
Seattle now has to lean on Wilson and Holani against the Chargers on Sunday while Zach Charbonnet remains on the physically unable to perform list. Charbonnet’s 21-day practice window opened earlier this week, and he was limited on Thursday and Friday after rushing for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns last year, but he is still working back from the ACL and that leaves the backfield short today. The immediate answer is Wilson and Holani; the unanswered part is whether Price's absence ends at four games or stretches longer once the recovery is judged against the chest injury that kept worsening in practice.
