Jaden Ortega is set for the kind of fight that can change a career in one night. He will face Alvi Dasuyev in Week 7 of Dana White’s Contender Series, where an unbeaten welterweight matchup carries immediate UFC roster implications.
That is why Ortega’s name is drawing attention now. He trains between Sikjitsu in Spokane and the Porrada Training Center in Las Vegas, and he enters undefeated with finishes in five of his six wins, plus stoppages in each of his last four outings. Dasuyev brings an even sharper edge to the matchup: the 24-year-old from Chechnya is 9-0, has posted nine straight finishes, and has gone beyond the opening stanza only once as a professional.
The series itself has already moved quickly through Season 10. The second half opened at Meta APEX last Tuesday, and four athletes earned UFC roster spots in the previous Week 6 set of fights. By the time Ortega and Dasuyev walk out for Week 7, 28 athletes will already have punched their ticket to the UFC this season, which is the standard both men are chasing.
Ortega’s appeal is obvious. He has not been extended much, and his recent run suggests he can make a fast fight even faster. But Dasuyev arrives with the sort of record that can force the issue. He was born in Chechnya, wants to become the first fighter representing Belgium on the UFC roster, and has not given opponents much room to breathe. That makes this more than a clean prospect-versus-prospect pairing. It is a test of which unbeaten fighter can impose himself first when the margin for error is almost nonexistent.
Week 7 will settle the only question that matters here: whether Ortega keeps his perfect run intact and moves closer to the UFC, or whether Dasuyev’s finishing streak continues and puts him in front of the selection process. The winner does not just protect an undefeated record; he puts himself in position to be one of the names the UFC has to keep.
