College GameDay is heading to Oxford, Mississippi, for Week 3, bringing its Saturday morning broadcast to The Grove on the Ole Miss campus before a Top 10 night game. The show will air Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon ET, with No. 8 Ole Miss set to host No. 7 LSU at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
Morgan Freeman will serve as the celebrity guest picker in his first-ever College GameDay appearance, adding a familiar Mississippi name to a broadcast that already has a big-game feel. Freeman announced the role Thursday on The Pat McAfee Show, and his selection gives the show a local connection that fits a campus built for big Saturdays.
The matchup also gives the broadcast real weight. Ole Miss is hosting College GameDay for the third time, and this is the eighth all-time appearance for the school. It is also only the second Top-10 matchup ever played at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, and the first Top-10 meeting in the LSU-Ole Miss series since 1962. The last time the show originated from The Grove was in 2021.
Lane Kiffin’s side adds another layer to the week. He will coach Ole Miss against a Top-10 opponent he coached the previous season, a matchup pattern that has happened only once before in Poll history. That makes Saturday’s game more than just another ranked meeting; it is a rare collision of familiarity, pressure and timing in a series the home team has won six straight times.
Rece Davis will anchor the broadcast in his 12th season at the helm of College GameDay, joined by Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban. The show from Texas last week averaged 2.7 million viewers and reached 3.4 million in the final hour, a reminder that the pregame window can pull as much attention as the game itself. For Ole Miss and LSU, the stage is set long before kickoff. By Saturday morning, Oxford will already be the center of college football’s weekly conversation.
