Georgia is bringing a new look to Saturday’s game against Western Kentucky, unveiling an all-white alternate uniform as the No. 2 Bulldogs try to keep their early momentum from turning into complacency.
The uniform features white helmets with red and black stripes, white jerseys with black numbers and red trim, and white pants. It is a rare change for Georgia, which has gone 4-0 in alternate uniforms under Kirby Smart.
The timing is what makes the switch notable. Georgia moved up one spot in the Top 25 college football poll after opening with a 63-3 win over Tennessee State, a game in which Gunner Stockton threw three touchdown passes in less than one half and Nate Frazier ran for three scores. Georgia scored touchdowns on its first five possessions and led 35-0 before Stockton left the game.
That kind of start is exactly why Smart is still pressing for more. He has told the team to continue to get better, and that message has carried through the week after a win that already looked overwhelming on the scoreboard. Georgia is 1-0, but it is also being pushed to treat Saturday as part of the climb rather than a celebration of the opener.
The matchup gives Western Kentucky a different kind of spotlight. The Hilltoppers opened 0-1 after a 49-14 loss at Nevada, and Tyson Helton’s team comes in after a 9-4 season in 2025 that ended with a win over Southern Miss in the New Orleans Bowl. Helton, now in his eighth season, is 57-37 at Western Kentucky.
Georgia’s alternate history has been limited but memorable. The Bulldogs wore black jerseys against Louisiana in 2016, then again in two 2020 games against Mississippi State and Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl. They also wore white jerseys and red pants in the 2020 season opener against Arkansas as a tribute to the 1980 national championship game. Saturday’s all-white combination extends that pattern without copying any of those earlier looks.
The game also carries a quieter question around Dante Dowdell, who said on Instagram that he suffered a punctured lung, broken ribs and collarbones, nerve damage to his right arm and nine staples in his head in an offseason ATV accident. Smart said Dowdell has been around the team some and is trying to get healthy. For now, that is as far as the answer goes.
Georgia now turns from a season-opening blowout and a new uniform debut toward a more serious marker on the calendar. After Western Kentucky, the next step is Sept. 19 at Arkansas, where the games start to matter in a different way.
