Nick Emmanwori was listed as questionable for the Seahawks’ season opener against the Patriots after a week in which he remained limited in practice following ankle surgery. That leaves Seattle waiting on one of its three safeties on the 53-man roster as Wednesday night approaches.
The timing matters because Emmanwori is not the only safety issue on the board. Ty Okada was ruled out with a hamstring injury, which means Julian Love is the one fully available safety among Seattle’s rostered trio if Emmanwori cannot go. The Seahawks would then have to reach into their practice squad depth, where Rodney Thomas II, AJ Finley, D'Anthony Bell and Maxen Hook are listed as options.
Mike Macdonald said Emmanwori did more in Monday’s practice than he had previously, a small sign of progress after the surgery that kept him limited throughout the week. “Everybody that's practiced with us and been here throughout camp, we're excited with where they're at, we feel like they could contribute to us playing great football,” Macdonald said, but the injury report still stopped short of clearing Emmanwori for the opener.
The uncertainty stretches beyond one player because Seattle is already thin at safety, with Julian Love, Emmanwori and Okada as the only safeties on the 53-man roster. Practice participation is only an estimate anyway, since the Seahawks held a walkthrough on Tuesday, but the report still points to a team that may need emergency help at a spot it cannot easily spare.
There are other injury notes in the same report, including Tory Horton as questionable with a hamstring injury and Josh Jones listed as limited with a knee injury. Anthony Bradford moved from limited on Sunday to full participation on Monday, while the Patriots ruled out TreVeyon Henderson and Ben Brown. For Seattle, though, the main question is whether Emmanwori can turn Monday’s extra work into a game-day clearance before kickoff.
