India are not waiting for the next game to think about the bowlers. On the eve of India Vs Hong Kong in Dubai, women’s team bowling coach Avishkar Salvi said every bowler is on a workload plan, with the aim of keeping the attack fresh through the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
That matters now because India are moving from one tournament game to the next, and the bowling group has already been asked to do different jobs. Renuka Singh Thakur was left out against Thailand, while Deepti Sharma sent down a tight spell of 0/3, showing that the team is not using the same formula every time. Salvi said the plan is not built around one player but around the full group, with overs being managed so each bowler can stay effective during the competition.
Salvi described the process as a cycle. Bowlers go through a building-up phase, then a maintenance phase, and then a period when they step back, train and recover before taking up more overs again. He said India want every bowler to have a definite plan so they can reach their best level at the right point in the tournament, rather than being pushed through every match in the same way.
The workload talk also sits beside a different concern from the Thailand match: India won by 94 runs but still lost seven wickets for 29 runs and went from 108/2 to 137/9 before finishing on 159/9. Shafali Verma’s 64 and Kranti Gaud’s unbeaten 15 helped steady the innings, but the late collapse showed that India’s batting still has a loose edge even after a strong result. Salvi brushed that off as part of T20 cricket, saying plans are not always executed cleanly and that downturns can happen even in wins, before pointing to the late recovery and the runs from the lower order.
For India, the next step is straightforward: Hong Kong in Dubai. The open question is how much the bowlers are rotated again, and whether Renuka Singh Thakur comes back into the side, but Salvi’s message leaves little doubt that the management will keep treating the bowling unit as a shared workload rather than a fixed XI on autopilot.
