Trent Miller gets another DWCS shot against Douglas Rodrigues in 2026

Trent Miller is getting another crack at Dana White’s Contender Series after his first one ended badly. He is booked against Douglas Rodrigues in DWCS Season 10, Week 2, a second chance that sends him back into the UFC contract conversation after a loss that once looked like a dead end.

That search interest makes sense because Miller’s first run on the show came after a rough break: his original opponent changed because of visa issues, so he stepped in on short notice and met Ryan Gandra instead. Gandra entered with a 7-1 pro record, overwhelmed Miller, and earned a UFC contract by finishing him. On paper, that was the end of the story.

Miller had built enough momentum before then to keep the door open. He started his pro MMA career in 2022 and won his first five bouts in the first round. Mike Jones stopped that run in 2024 with a first-round finish, but Miller answered with another first-round win, then absorbed a second loss by second-round submission before regrouping again. He later added a split decision and then stopped a 7-9 fighter in the third round under the Tuff-N-Uff banner, the sort of mixed record that does not usually lead straight back to the UFC path.

That is what makes this booking unusual. Dana White’s Contender Series has been used since 2017 as a fast track to UFC contracts, and fighters usually get one clean shot to prove they belong. Miller lost his first appearance on August 26 of the previous year, and he has only had one fight since then. On January 10, he faced Tyler Smith, who entered at 3-3, while Smith had once opened his own career with a win over Cody Vidal. Miller kept himself active, but not enough to make the second look feel routine.

The wrinkle is that Gandra’s win over Miller has aged well. After beating Miller, Gandra took out Jose Medina in just over 40 seconds in his UFC debut and then stopped Zach Reese in just over a minute on the UFC 329 undercard. Medina had come from the 2023 Contender Series and fell to 0-4 in the UFC before being released, while Reese arrived with a 4-3, 1 NC UFC mark after his own 2023 Contender Series run. Gandra is now booked again, this time against Ozzy Diaz, another fighter with a Contender Series past.

Miller’s new chance now turns on the same thing that always matters on DWCS: whether he can make the case in one night. The show’s smaller cage at the UFC Apex leaves little room to stall, and close friends and family do not change the pressure. For Miller, the next step is not abstract. It is Douglas Rodrigues, in Week 2, with the kind of second look that can either erase an old loss or confirm it.
