The welterweight champion defends against Machado Garry at Xfinity Mobile Arena, and the card also pairs Mackenzie Dern with Gillian Robertson in the co-main event.
That makes this the first numbered UFC event in Philadelphia in a little over 15 years, a rare stop for a city that last hosted a numbered card in March 2019 when Justin Gaethje stopped Edson Barboza at the same venue. The return matters because the main event is not just a name fight. It is a style test with a belt attached.
Makhachev enters with the kind of record that usually shortens conversations. He won the belt last November with a one-sided win over Jack Della Maddalena at Madison Square Garden, spent 19 minutes in control, and held Della Maddalena to 18 significant strikes. That performance made him a two-weight world champion and pushed his winning streak to 16, tying Anderson Silva for the longest in UFC history. He also gives up four inches in both height and reach to Machado Garry, which should matter when the champion tries to close distance, secure grips and drag the fight into his preferred range.
Machado Garry has earned the shot by surviving long fights and winning them on the cards. He beat Carlos Prates in April 2025 over five rounds and followed that by defeating Belal Muhammad in November 2025 over three frames, with both victories adding to a run that now stands at five straight decisions. That record tells one story. Makhachev’s grappling tells another. If the challenger can keep the fight upright long enough to make the champion work at range, he has a path. If not, the same control that beat Della Maddalena could decide another title fight.
The co-main event brings its own stakes. Dern won the vacant strawweight title last October in Abu Dhabi by beating Virna Jandiroba after entering the championship rounds down on two of the three scorecards, a reminder that she can recover from trouble late. Robertson comes in with five straight wins and six victories in her last seven since returning to the strawweight division, most recently edging Amanda Lemos on the scorecards in March. Philadelphia may be getting a rare numbered UFC card, but the main questions are simple: whether Machado Garry can keep Makhachev off him long enough to matter, and whether the arena gets the kind of finishing action its recent history suggests it might.
