Dana White’s Contender Series opens Season 10 on Tuesday with a heavyweight main event that puts Anthony Wint opposite Matt Adams, a pairing built around two fighters trying to turn one night into a UFC contract. For Wint, the moment is especially sharp: the former New York Jets linebacker has carried an undefeated pro run into MMA and now gets the lead spot on Episode 1.
The show has become a reliable path to the UFC since it launched in the summer of 2017, and it now runs as a 10-episode annual series after starting with eight episodes in its first two seasons. That broader backdrop is why the opener matters now. The series has produced more than 40 athletes ranked in the Meta Rankings and more than 40 in the Media Panel Rankings, along with names such as Carlos Ulberg, Jamahal Hill, Sean O’Malley and Jack Della Maddalena, while Natasha? Natalia Silva, Carlos Prates, Michael Morales and Navajo Stirling are among the current contenders who came through it.
Wint brings speed to the cage. He had three straight stoppage wins as an amateur, then took five finishes in his six pro starts, with his last two victories ending in 31 seconds and 37 seconds. Adams, though, has his own case to make: he has earned finishes in five of his six pro wins, he won by first-round stoppage in March to secure his Contender Series berth, and he has gone 5-1 since losing his debut in early 2023. He trains alongside UFC heavyweight newcomer RJ Harris, another sign that his camp has been preparing him for this kind of spotlight.
The heavyweight slot stands out because last season featured just four heavyweight matchups in all. Yet the four winners from those bouts are now on the roster, and three of them earned contracts, which is enough to explain why the category is back at the front of the line after sitting so lightly on the schedule. Season 10 also opens at Meta APEX, where the series has settled after relocating there, and the card adds a lightweight bout between Fabrizio Escarrega and Abe Alsaghir, whose combined 17-1 record and 15 finishes give the night even more finishing power.
What comes next is straightforward and uncertain at once: Tuesday’s Episode 1 will tell whether Wint’s conversion from football to MMA can survive a ranked-level test, or whether Adams turns a late call into the kind of performance that gets noticed again. In a series that has already sent dozens of fighters into the UFC conversation, the first main event of Season 10 is not just an opening bell. It is a test of who can keep the pipeline moving.
