Boca Juniors will host Estudiantes at the Estadio Tomás Adolfo Ducó on Wednesday, September 2 at 21.15, pushing its second Torneo Clausura home match away from La Bombonera while repairs continue on the pitch there. The club will play its next two league matches at Huracán’s stadium, a practical fix that leaves Boca supporters preparing for a smaller ground and a different matchday feel.
The move came after the grass at La Bombonera showed serious damage in the area near the preferred boxes, even after drainage and re-seeding work during the break. Recent weather in Buenos Aires kept the new turf from settling properly, so the club chose not to risk another night on a surface that had already failed to hold up.
For this match, Nazareno Arasa will referee Boca Juniors against Estudiantes, with Silvio Trucco in charge of the VAR. Boca will also wear its new home kit, while Rodolfo Arruabarrena has left the Colombian forward out of the starting lineup as the club looks to manage the squad around the venue change.
The decision has not gone over smoothly with everyone. One Boca fan summed up the mood by saying that it was not liked much, but there was no alternative, that the stadium was small and many season-ticket holders would be left out, and that the club should get La Bombonera back in shape soon so supporters could return. Boca is treating the shift as a workaround; many fans see it as a reminder that a home match away from home comes with a cost.
There is also a larger football reason the timing matters. On Wednesday, Boca made Iker Zufiaurre’s loan to Albión official until June 30, 2027, without a fee and without a purchase option, a move meant to free a squad place for the possible arrival of Enner Valencia. Estudiantes arrives after a 3-0 win over Defensa y Justicia in La Plata and under Alexander Medina, while Boca’s side is still adjusting to a schedule shaped by the damaged pitch. The unanswered question is not whether Boca will be back at La Bombonera someday, but whether the surface will be ready after these two home matches at Huracán’s stadium.
