Brie Garcia said Monday that a broken scapula will keep her out of the ring indefinitely after the injury she suffered at SummerSlam 2026. The update turns a bruising night into an open-ended absence for one of WWE’s most watched names.
Garcia was hurt during a six-person tag team match at the first night of SummerSlam on Saturday, Aug. 1, when the injury appeared to happen after Jacy Jayne drove a dive into steel steps against her right shoulder. Garcia said she was still reading fans’ love, warm wishes and prayers while sitting in the hospital, a detail that underscored how quickly the match had turned from live action to medical evaluation.
Paul “Triple H” Levesque said the injury seemed pretty bad and confirmed that Garcia had been taken to a local hospital for more examination. He also said WWE would pivot its feud plans depending on her diagnosis, a reminder that the damage went beyond one performer’s shoulder and reached directly into the company’s creative plans.
Garcia said she was not sure how she finished the match, but believed adrenaline, her passion for the business and her love for the other women she works with carried her through to the end. She also said her new journey starts, a line that read less like post-match drama than a wrestler bracing for rehab after the lights had gone down.
That makes the friction in the story hard to ignore. Garcia finished the bout, but she was holding her right shoulder for the rest of the match and could not take part in the post-match attack on Paige, while Levesque said from the start that the injury looked serious. In wrestling, that gap matters: what a performer can push through in the moment is not always what the body will allow once the adrenaline fades.
The timing is especially rough for WWE because Garcia’s injury came in a match that also featured Nikki and Paige against Fatal Influence, and the company had already been building toward a feud that now has to be adjusted on the fly. Garcia said she will return to WWE at some point and added that Brie Mode always finds a way back to her wrestling home, but the new part of the story is the one no one can yet answer: how long that road will be.
