America Vs Santos: Alan Cervantes is back in contention for América

Alan Cervantes is back in the picture for América ahead of America Vs Santos after serving his one-match suspension against Atlante. Guillermo Almada now has one fewer absence to manage as he prepares his team for the next Liga MX test.

Cervantes was sent off in América’s first match under Almada, a 1-0 win over Querétaro, and that red card carried straight into the next game. He sat out the 1-1 draw with Atlante, which means his suspension is now complete and he is available again for the coach.

That matters because América has not had to juggle suspension issues beyond that case, even as the team draws criticism for its start and still has only one loan addition in Óscar Perea. The margin for error remains thin for a side that was eliminated in the quarterfinals of Apertura 2025 by Club de Fútbol Monterrey and then again in the quarterfinals of Clausura 2026 by Pumas de la UNAM after a 6-6 aggregate series.

América has already changed course once by parting with André Jardine and bringing in Almada, and the new stage has produced one win and one draw. Cervantes does not automatically solve the larger questions around the squad, but he gives Almada another option at a time when the team needs cleaner answers than criticism and patchwork cover.

What remains unanswered is whether Cervantes goes straight back into the starting XI or returns as a reserve option. Either way, his availability is the immediate roster update for América as the club turns to Santos Laguna.
