Davis Riley shot a seven-under 63 on Saturday at Detroit Golf Club and moved into a one-shot lead at the Rocket Classic, putting him in position to chase his third PGA Tour victory. He will start the final round one shot ahead of Michael Brennan.
The 29-year-old has not had much else to lean on this season. Riley said there were times in 2026 when he wanted to stay home and not play golf, a blunt assessment from a two-time Tour winner whose last top-10 came with a T6 at the Sony Open in January. That finish came eight months ago, and since then he has missed cuts in half the tournaments he entered and managed just one top-10 finish.
Riley said his driver has been his Achilles heel, but he also said his game has been trending in the right direction. That matters because the way he is scoring now is less about a sudden overhaul than about keeping enough shots in play to let the rest of his game work. He has two PGA Tour victories already, from the 2023 Zurich Classic alongside Nick Hardy and the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, and another Sunday would turn a difficult stretch into a late-season rescue.
The round also sits against something far more personal. Riley and Alexandra are expecting their first child later this month, and he said he is thankful for her support through the rough days. He said she is at home working hard, growing a human and getting ready for what comes next, while he tries to keep his own game together on the course.
That is what gives Sunday its edge. Riley is leading despite describing this season as one that has pushed him to the point of not wanting to play, and Brennan is close enough to make every swing count. If Riley closes it out, it becomes his third PGA Tour victory and the clearest sign yet that the season he called hard is finally bending back in his favor.
