The Air Jordan 17 Retro Low SP Black Patent will land in Europe on Aug. 8, with a retail price of $245 and style code IV7640-001. It is a limited-edition return for Michael Jordan’s Air Jordan 17 line, and it gives the low-top model its first black patent update.
The release matters because buyers in Europe are getting the clearest first look at a pair built around the original 2002 Air Jordan 17 Low, but with a sharper finish. The shoe keeps the blacked-out color blocking and chrome details of that first version, while replacing the standard leather with patent material through most of the upper. Even the tongue changes, shifting to perforated leather instead of the croc-embossed patent look used on the 2002 pair.
That makes the return more than a simple reissue. The original Air Jordan 17 Low launched in a smooth black leather build, and this version turns that idea toward a glossier, more aggressive finish. The change also arrives as Jordan Brand keeps reaching back to models beyond the most familiar classics, a lane that has included renewed attention on post-Air Jordan 13 silhouettes.
There is still a gap around scale. No number has been given for how many pairs will be available in Europe on Aug. 8, and the wider global release for the Black/Black/Metallic Silver colorway is only said to be coming soon. That leaves the Europe drop as the most concrete part of the rollout for now, even as the model is also tied to other planned releases.
Those plans include a similar Air Jordan 17 Low in the Jordan Brand Black Pack this holiday season, alongside the Air Jordan 14 Low, Air Jordan 15 and Air Jordan 16. The Black Pack version will use stingray leather, while the Air Jordan 17 is also expected to get its first-ever reissue in its original College Blue colorway in February for NBA All-Star Weekend. For a model that has long lived in the shadow of Air Jordans 1 through 14, the new push signals something simple: Jordan Brand is testing how far the Air Jordan 17 can travel when it is dressed as both a nostalgia piece and a fresh buy.
