The Atlanta Dream were installed as 1.5-point favorites over the Dallas Wings on Wednesday night in Arlington, but the better betting side is Dallas to cover. That is the split that matters for a game set for 8 p.m. ET on July 29, with the line saying one thing and the recent numbers pointing another way.
Rhyne Howard is part of the reason this game has drawn attention beyond a routine midweek matchup. The Wings have an offense that can keep pace, Dallas is averaging 90.2 points per game and ranking third in the WNBA with 7.9 made threes per game, and Paige Bueckers has been finishing possessions from deep, hitting at least two threes in five of her last eight games while shooting 41.6% from beyond the arc over that stretch.
The case against Atlanta is harder to ignore than the spread suggests. The Dream have been favored in every game since June 6, yet they are only 5-12 against the spread this season and 1-10 ATS since June 22. They have also given up 91 or more points in four straight games, a run that matters against a Dallas team with a 111.9 offensive rating and a clean path to pressure Atlanta from the perimeter.
That perimeter weakness is the key. Atlanta allows a WNBA-high 37.2% shooting on 3-pointers, which is exactly the kind of profile that makes Dallas more attractive as a home underdog. A 1.5-point line is small enough that one hot shooting night can flip it, and the Wings do not need to win outright for the bet to cash. They only need to stay within the number, and Atlanta’s recent track record makes that a reasonable ask.
The only real wrinkle is availability. Te-Hina Paopao was listed as out, Indya Nivar was questionable and Alanna Smith was probable, leaving the final shape of the matchup dependent on who is actually on the floor when the teams tip off. For bettors, though, the conclusion is already clear enough: the market gave Atlanta the points, but the better value sits with Dallas at home.
