Jackson Koivun won the 3M Open on Sunday by three strokes, closing with a bogey-free 5-under 66 for a 25-under 259 total at TPC Twin Cities. In just his third start as a professional, the 21-year-old turned a final-hole par putt from 13 feet, 9 inches into a victory that also set a tournament record by one stroke.
That finish mattered because the final round was not a soft landing. Scottie Scheffler matched the day’s low closing push with a bogey-free 8-under 63 and still finished second, three shots back. Koivun’s last 42 holes came without a bogey and left him at 18-under par over that stretch, the sort of run that separated him from a leaderboard packed with low numbers all week.
The win gives Koivun 500 FedExCup points and $1,584,000 from a record $8.8 million prize fund, and it lifted him to 70th in the FedExCup. It also made him the seventh first-time winner of the season and secured his PGA TOUR winner exemption through 2028, along with entries into the 2027 editions of THE PLAYERS Championship, the Masters and the PGA Championship.
The broader picture was a shootout from start to finish. Ben Kohles opened with a 9-under 62, Michael Kim answered with a 12-under 59 to take the midway lead, and Koivun seized control with a 61 in the third round before finishing it off on Sunday. Lee Hodges had held the old 3M Open mark from 2023, and Koivun took it down by one while Scheffler’s runner-up finish became his fifth of the season.
For Koivun, the next step is no longer about proving he can contend for four rounds. He has already done that. The question now is how far a first PGA TOUR victory can carry a player who was still only making his third start as a professional when he beat one of the season’s most reliable finishers.
