Yash Thakur praises Shreyas Iyer's calm captaincy in Zimbabwe series

Yash Thakur says Shreyas Iyer has made him feel settled quickly in India colors because the captain already knows where the fast bowler can do the most damage. Thakur said Iyer understands his strengths and the phases of the innings where he is most effective, from the powerplay to the middle overs and the death.

The comments came during the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe, where Thakur is speaking as an India fast bowler while trying to find his place in a live international setup. He said the trust shown by Iyer gives him confidence on the field, and that matters now because this is the moment when a newcomer has to turn familiarity into output.

Thakur said that understanding did not appear overnight. It was built during the IPL, when he spent time with Iyer and discussed plans, long before the two were linked again in the Indian team. He said he had already played under Iyer in the IPL, and that the continuity has helped him arrive with a bond already in place rather than starting from scratch.

That comfort, though, comes with a test. Thakur described Iyer as extremely calm and said he never loses his composure whether the bowlers are giving away runs, bowling well, or having an off day. He also said the captain asks bowlers for their plans before offering his own input, listens first and does not impose ideas, which is a different kind of authority from simply directing traffic from the middle.

Thakur called him a bowler's captain and said that freedom matters because it lets bowlers back their own plans. But the praise also lands in the middle of an ongoing series, where calm words have to be matched by overs that hold up under pressure, and where the real measure of that trust will be whether Thakur can use those chances in the phases he says suit him best.

For now, the sharper question is not whether Iyer has backed him. It is whether Thakur can turn that backing into the kind of spell that makes the trust look obvious.
