Magomed Zaynukov is finally set for his first official UFC appearance on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, where he will face Damian Rzepecki on the main card of Fight Night. For Zaynukov, it is the end of a wait that stretched close to a year since his last fight.
He put the delay plainly. “After my last fight almost a year has passed,” Zaynukov said, adding, “I’ve been waiting for this fight for a very long time.” He also called it time for a return in Abu Dhabi and said he and his team are ready to conquer the card. The timing matters because this is not just another booking; it is the first UFC fight of his career, the one that turns a Contender Series win into a real roster debut.
Zaynukov earned that shot with a decision over Lucas Caldas on Dana White’s Contender Series, and he said afterward he had been told not to chase the hype. That warning has followed him since then, even as his name has spread far beyond fight fans. Some of the attention comes from a meme that nicknamed him “John Pork,” a label he clearly finds more annoying than amusing.
That irritation sits beside a harder line in his public image. His real nickname is Chanko, a name tied to Dagestan and first used by Ibrahim Khedirov in 2009 at the Dagestan Muay Thai Championships. Zaynukov said he trained under Khedirov for nearly 12 years, and he has framed the lesson from that background in simple terms: stay humble, carry yourself with dignity, and do not let popularity change the fighter.
The problem is that the extra attention around him has not come only from the meme. At UFC 322 in Madison Square Garden, Zaynukov attacked Dillon Danis in the crowd, and the fallout has included questions about whether he will be able to re-enter America. That issue hangs over him even as Saturday’s fight draws closer, because the debut he has been waiting for is finally here, but the consequences of everything surrounding him are not settled.
Zaynukov sounds focused on the fight itself. “We all understand that everything we’ve been given is a test,” he said. “Maybe it’s a test to keep us from becoming arrogant.” He pointed to Khabib and Islam Makhachev as examples to follow, and if he can keep the spotlight on Damian Rzepecki instead of everything orbiting him, Saturday will give him the clean start he has been chasing for months.
