That kind of form matters in a finale like this, especially with the Braves trying to turn one good night into a series win.
The numbers also tilt toward Sale when the matchup turns into a test of old histories. Manny Machado is 11-for-35 against him with a.355 batting average and a.993 OPS, while Xander Bogaerts is 7-for-22 with one home run. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Gavin Sheets have each taken Sale deep once in smaller samples, but Jake Cronenworth is 0-for-10 with six strikeouts.
