Tom Pelissero was added Tuesday to the list of and NFL Network employees being let go, a move reported a bit after 10 a.m. ET and one that landed in the middle of a broader overhaul of NFL coverage. Pelissero had been a top-level insider for NFL Network for years.
His name surfaced as kept working through the changes created by its purchase of the network in late January, a deal that also gave the league a 10 percent stake in. For the past six months, has been sorting out how to make its bases in Bristol and New York coordinate with NFL Network's Los Angeles operation, and Pelissero's exit fits that consolidation.
That is why his departure drew attention beyond one layoff list. On the NFL Network side, Pelissero was a staple on the platform, but had Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport in overlapping insider roles, and that left less room for another high-profile voice. The overlap was not just a staffing issue; it was the kind of redundancy that becomes hard to justify once a merger starts turning parallel roles into one.
