Marc Cucurella has put his international future on the line before Spain's World Cup final against Argentina. The 27-year-old said he will walk away from La Roja if Spain beat the defending champions in North America.

He said a World Cup win would end his time with the national team because, in his view, winning the European Championship in 2024 and lifting the World Cup would give him the two biggest international honours he can chase.

He added that he would get a little tattoo of de la Fuente's face on his bicep if Spain were to win the World Cup, a promise that sits oddly beside the vow to step away.
That is the split at the heart of it. Cucurella is 27 and says he has already completed his journey with La Roja if Spain finish the job in the World Cup final. Yet he is also still speaking like a player fully invested in the final itself, because the retirement pledge means nothing unless Spain actually beat Argentina.
If Spain do win, the next phone call belongs to Luis de la Fuente. If they do not, Cucurella stays part of a team still chasing the second World Cup title, and the promise becomes one of those things footballers say before a final that only the result can either seal or erase.
