Indiana landed a commitment from consensus five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales on Friday evening, giving Curt Cignetti and Indiana a recruiting breakthrough it had not yet had in his tenure. Sales, from Indianapolis, became Cignetti's first five-star commit as a head coach and the highest rated recruit to pick Indiana in program history.
The timing matters because Indiana is being searched in a very different light now. Joel Klatt included Indiana in his way-too-early top 10 for 2026, a sign that the program's recent run has changed how it is viewed far beyond Bloomington. Under Cignetti, Indiana has already put together a College Football Playoff appearance, a Big Ten title, a national championship and a 16-0 season, which is why a single recruiting commitment now lands with more weight than it would have a year ago.
That is also where the catch has always been. Cignetti's success has been obvious on the field, but he had not been able to amass blue-chip talent in the traditional sense, and that made Indiana's ceiling harder to define even after the wins piled up. Sales changes that conversation in a visible way. A five-star wide receiver from Indianapolis does not prove the pipeline is fixed, but it does show that elite recruits are now willing to treat Indiana as a real destination instead of a surprise.
Sales still has to move through the rest of the recruiting process before anything is final, and that leaves the one question that matters most: whether Indiana can turn one landmark commitment into a pattern. For Cignetti, this is the first five-star signal that his success can travel beyond the scoreboard and into the kind of talent base that has usually decided who stays in the race for a title.
