Utah Royals FC goes into Saturday’s meeting with the Orlando Pride looking for a result it has not found since the break, and it will do so with Cece Delzer carrying the attack at America First Field. Delzer scored in each of Utah’s last two matches, including the lone goal in the 23rd minute of last Friday’s 3-1 loss to Gotham FC.
That is why this matchup is getting attention now. Utah had gone into the break on a 10-match unbeaten streak, a run that produced points in every one of those games, but it has returned with two straight matches without a result. The Royals also opened the 2026 campaign winless through their first two matches, which makes the next home date feel less like a routine fixture and more like a test of whether the club can stabilize quickly.
Delzer’s recent scoring has given Utah something to hold onto. She converted a penalty against the Chicago Stars, then found the net again against Gotham FC, and both goals came while the Royals were trying to manage a stretch that has not matched the standard they set before the break. Jimmy Coenraets said he was far from panicked about the squad, and the results before the layoff help explain why.
There is still a catch in the shape of the roster. Miyabi, Mina Tanaka and Paige Cronin returned to the pitch against Gotham FC, but the comeback was not enough to prevent another loss. Tanaka played the first half, while Cronin and Miyabi came on after halftime, giving Utah a little more depth as it tried to recover at home.
Utah and the Orlando Pride have met four times since the Royals returned to Utah in 2024, so this is not an unfamiliar opponent. Even so, Saturday’s game matters more than a typical midseason matchup because it follows a 3-1 loss, two winless results since the break and a pre-break run that set a much higher bar. If Utah is going to turn that momentum back into points, Delzer may need to keep doing the one thing that has worked lately: finishing the chances that come her way.
The Royals return to America First Field for a second straight home match on Saturday, July 18, and that setting gives them a clear chance to reset. The next question is whether the returning players and Delzer’s form can translate into the result Utah needs before the second half of the season starts to pull away from it.
