The Chicago Stars are 15th in the 16-team NWSL at 4-10-0 with 14 points, eight goals scored and 28 allowed, and they said they and the league are actively monitoring air quality and heat conditions ahead of the match. That caution carries extra weight after Thursday's MLS game between the Chicago Fire and the Vancouver Whitecaps was postponed, a reminder that the smoke from the Canadian wildfires is already affecting schedules in the region.
Angel City tried to use the break to tighten its own game.
