The Svenska Tennisförbundet board said in Båstad that it has begun work on a new development plan built around three priority areas, with the full package due before 2027. The move comes while Nordea Open in Båstad is in full swing and Swedish tennis is being asked to look beyond the summer.
The board says the work is already under way with the office and the regions, and that about a dozen concrete initiatives will be folded into the 2027 budget. Among them are efforts to strengthen Swedish tennis’ position and improve the conditions for attracting sponsors, along with a push on digitalization and better use of data.
That matters now because the board is using the tournament week in Båstad as more than a backdrop. It is also a summer message: the federation says it has not taken a break, even as it continues a change process that includes recruiting a new secretary general. The search is being handled with an external company specializing in recruitment within the sports movement and special sports federations, and the post will soon be advertised on tennis.se and in other relevant forums.
There is still a gap in the middle of that process. No acting secretary general has been named, and the office management group is working closely with the board until a permanent appointment is made. At the same time, the board has already completed seven regional visits and met about twenty clubs during the spring, and it plans to give a more comprehensive picture of the challenges and opportunities seen around the country during the autumn.
For players and clubs, the next date to watch is 16 August, when Båstad will host a network meeting for current and former college players. After that, the board’s broader plan will have to move from consultation to delivery, with the 2027 budget turning its ideas into something measurable.
