Lyra Valkyria and Bayley are headed for a one-on-one match at Saturday Night's Main Event after WWE made the bout official on Monday's Raw. The booking comes after Valkyria turned heel following their Women's Tag Team Championships loss on the June 22 episode of Raw, turning a former partnership into a personal grudge.
Bayley brought Valkyria to the ring and made clear she wanted the fight now because the two had spent weeks circling each other without saying it face to face. She said she thought they could be honest, say what they truly felt, and then apologize to one another. Valkyria had no interest in that version of the conversation. She said Bayley should apologize to her for holding her back for an entire year, accused her of always trying to play the victim, and said she wanted to look Bayley in the eye and tell her everything she ever told her to make her feel better about herself was a lie.
The confrontation did not stay verbal for long. Bayley told Valkyria she was acting like she was special while trying to tear down the first-ever women's grand slam champion and a Royal Rumble winner. She added that beating Valkyria at Madison Square Garden would join the list of her accomplishments. By then, Adam Pearce had already made the match official, and the two women were meeting face to face for the first time since the heel turn. That matters because their earlier exchanges had only come through pre-recorded video packages, leaving the feud to simmer until Monday gave it a live edge.
What followed made the next step even clearer. As Bayley tried to leave, Valkyria grabbed her. Bayley went for a takedown but got caught with a clothesline, then Valkyria hit the Bayley-to-Belly and stood tall. Bayley and Valkyria were once friends and tag team partners, but the loss on June 22 split them apart fast. The only question left now is whether Bayley can turn the live confrontation into payback when Saturday Night's Main Event arrives.
