Dallas is being linked to Bobby Wagner again, and this time the idea is coming from a Seahawks voice who sees a real path if the veteran keeps playing. Lee Vowell of 12th Man Rising said Wagner could end up with the Dallas Cowboys, a possibility that has picked up pace as Jerry Jones and Co. have retooled the defense after the 2025 season.
The search is happening now because training camp is only a few weeks away and the Cowboys still have uneasy linebacker and cornerback rooms. Dallas is hurting at inside linebacker, and Brian Schottenheimer has already said the roster concerns are still there. That is why the drumbeat for Wagner has intensified, even with Bobby Wagner now 36 years old.
What makes the fit easy to see is the role. Vowell wrote that Wagner would need a team looking for an inside linebacker and one that is not eager to pay top dollar for the job. In that frame, Dallas makes sense. Wagner would be the Cowboys' best MIKE linebacker since Leighton Vander Esch, which is why the possibility keeps drawing attention rather than fading away.
But the appeal cuts against the mood in Seattle. Vowell put it plainly: “Unfortunately for Seahawks fans, this could mean that Wagner ends up with the Dallas Cowboys,” and that is the part that gives the rumor its sting. Seattle fans already watched DeMarcus Lawrence leave last offseason, only to hear him say he knew he would never win a Lombardi Trophy in Dallas before lifting that same trophy in his first season with the Seattle Seahawks. The memory of Tony Romo's botched field goal snap in the 2006 Wild Card Game in Seattle still sits in that history too, and a Wagner move to Dallas would add another sharp edge to it.
Christian Parker's arrival as the new coordinator has not erased the uncertainty around Dallas, and the current roster picture still points back to the same need. Wagner is not guaranteed to sign with anyone, but if he wants to keep going, the pool of sensible teams is narrow. Dallas is in it now, and until Wagner makes his choice, that is the possibility hanging over both fan bases.
