Bob MacIntyre, Matt Fitzpatrick and Min Woo Lee finished the delayed third round tied for the lead at 12 under at the Genesis Scottish Open, turning a fog-hit Saturday into a three-way Sunday morning race for the title. MacIntyre, who is chasing a second Scottish Open win, signed for a blemish-free 65 after play resumed at 07:00 BST.
The timing matters because the leaderboard was still being settled when the field came back out, and the result pulled the top of the tournament into a tight cluster just before the final round. MacIntyre had started the day two under for the round, then birdied the 11th with a long-range putt, added back-to-back gains at 13 and 14, and saved par at the last after driving into a fairway bunker. Fitzpatrick matched him with a 66 after holing a 30-footer for birdie at the end, while Lee briefly moved to 13 under with three straight birdies on the back nine before dropping a shot and settling for pars.
That left Chris Gotterup, the defending champion, and Tom Kim one shot back at 11 under, with Wyndham Clark two adrift at 10 under. Rory McIlroy had shared the lead after the first and second rounds, but a three-over 73 dropped him six shots off the pace and out of the frame that had been his all week. Play had been suspended for a second time on Saturday because of fog, and when it returned on Sunday the unfinished third round had become a sprint to set the final pairing.
MacIntyre, Fitzpatrick and Lee were due out in the final group at 14:50 BST, and the most telling fact is that the title no longer belongs to any one player’s momentum alone. It now sits in a pack, with one clean round likely enough to decide whether MacIntyre can repeat his 2024 win or whether one of the others takes the Scottish Open in a finish shaped as much by the weather as by the golf.
