Diant Ramaj is preparing to leave Borussia Dortmund after spending about one and a half years at the club without a single appearance. The 24-year-old wants to be a first-choice goalkeeper, but Gregor Kobel remains set as Dortmund’s starter and is not expected to move this summer.
That leaves Ramaj in a position he does not want to accept. He came from Ajax Amsterdam in the spring of last year for five million euros, then spent the second half of the season on loan at FC Kopenhagen. Before joining Dortmund, he had already shown he can handle the role of number one, playing that position for 1. FC Heidenheim in the previous season.
The timing matters because Dortmund signed him with a possible Kobel departure in mind, and that path no longer appears open. Kobel is staying, Ramaj wants to start, and the gap between those two realities is what is driving the move now. Bild reported that Ramaj is preparing his exit, and Dortmund is reportedly open to a transfer.
There is also a financial layer to the situation. Ramaj is under contract until 2029 and probably does not have a release clause for this summer, which means any deal would require a fee. Dortmund would not be surprised if it tried to recover at least the five million euros it paid for him, a figure that gives the club a clear floor in any talks.
What happens next is straightforward even if the destination is not. Talks with interested clubs are expected to begin, but no club has been named. For Ramaj, the question is no longer whether he can wait for a turn behind Kobel; it is which club will give him the role he wants now.
