Bell, a Kentucky shortstop, is being framed as the kind of polished college hitter Colorado should chase if it wants the pick to mean something right away.
The interest in Zion Rose is tied to Bell’s production and profile. MLB Pipeline ranked him No. 10 in this year’s draft, and he answered at Kentucky with a.343/.510/.608 line, nine home runs, 29 RBI and 10 stolen bases across 41 games. That mix helps explain why he keeps showing up as more than a one-tool name: a switch-hitting infielder with offensive feel, defensive flexibility and enough polish to project well as a major leaguer.
That matters because Colorado is not shopping for a long-shot swing. The Rockies are still trying to turn minor league talent into major league mainstays, so a player who already looks advanced carries real appeal. Bell’s bat gives the recommendation its weight, but his value also comes from the kind of steadiness that can shorten the path from draft day to Denver, even if the Rockies themselves are still building around young pieces such as Hunter Goodman, Ethan Holliday, Charlie Condon and Zac Veen.
There is still a catch. The No. 10 pick in 2026 is only a slot on paper, and the board can shift long before Colorado is on the clock. Bell’s placement by MLB Pipeline shows he is already viewed as a top-10 talent, but that also means he may not be sitting there when the Rockies are ready to choose.
