San Antonio Spurs TV play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey is no longer with the organization, according to a report that landed after a cheating allegation about him became public. The move leaves the Spurs broadcast booth facing an abrupt change, and it comes just months after Tobey said he was staying put.
The report was first published by Front Office Sports, and multiple sources confirmed the accuracy of the news to KSAT on Thursday. Spurs Sports & Entertainment declined to comment to KSAT, leaving the reason for Tobey’s departure unaddressed in public by the team.
Tobey had only just finished his second full season calling Spurs games alongside Sean Elliott. In October 2024, the Spurs hired him to replace Bill Land, putting him in one of the most visible jobs on the team’s TV side. Before that, he worked as a sports anchor in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Denver, and also did play-by-play for Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network.
What makes this change harder to square is what Tobey himself posted on X three weeks earlier. On June 18, he wrote that he had signed a multi-year extension to stay with the Spurs and added, “I love this city!” That public message now sits in sharp contrast with the report that he is no longer with the organization.
The allegation at the center of the story was made by a woman who said she was Tobey’s longtime girlfriend and accused him of being unfaithful with the relative of a Spurs player. KSAT could not independently confirm that claim, but Tobey later set his X account to private after the allegation became public. The sequence leaves one key question hanging: whether the Spurs formally fired Tobey or ended the relationship in some other way.
For viewers, the practical effect is immediate. The San Antonio Spurs have lost the voice they brought in to take over after Bill Land, and there is no public word yet on who will handle the booth next or how the team will explain a change that arrived so soon after a promised extension.
