On Tuesday, the Golden State Warriors chose not to match the Memphis Grizzlies' offer sheet for Quinten Post, ending his time with Golden State. The 26-year-old big man will become an unrestricted free agent after Memphis' three-year, $30 million proposal went unmatched.
The decision closes the book on a player the Warriors took with the No. 52 pick in the 2024 draft. Post appeared in 109 games for Golden State and made 49 starts, along with 12 playoff appearances, giving the team a young center it had already seen in a long stretch of regular and postseason work.
Golden State had made Post a restricted free agent by extending him a qualifying offer this offseason. That set the stage for Memphis to build an offer sheet designed to make matching harder: only the first year was guaranteed at $9 million, while some of the remaining money was tied to highly unlikely incentives that counted toward the apron.
That structure mattered because the Warriors were already nearing their spending limit, and every extra dollar on the sheet pushed the decision closer to a hard stop. With the incentive language inflating the practical cost of matching, Golden State backed away rather than commit to the full deal.
It is the first time since 2020 that a restricted free agent received an offer sheet of at least $5 million and his original team did not match it, according to 's Bobby Marks. For Post, the next step is straightforward: he hits the open market as an unrestricted free agent after a season in which Golden State had every chance to keep him and chose not to.
