Louisiana’s Powerball players have a new month-by-month scorecard, and July came out on the wrong side of it. A study crunched by BonusJet.com found that February, May and September were the luckiest months for Powerball jackpot wins in Louisiana, while July was the unluckiest month to buy a ticket.
The pattern matters because it is built on 10 Louisiana Powerball jackpot winners since 1995, a small pool that still produced a clear split. February, May and September each had two jackpot wins, giving those three months six of the state’s 10 victories. Louisiana has never produced a Mega Millions jackpot winner, which leaves Powerball as the game where the state’s luck has shown up most clearly.
That is why the ranking is showing up now: players looking for a best guess on when to buy a ticket are being handed a study-based list rather than a guarantee. BonusJet.com said it created the study and crunched the numbers, but the seasonal explanations attached to the lucky months are only suggestions, not proof. February was linked to Mardi Gras, May to graduation and Mother’s Day, and September to the start of school and the beginning of football season.
The problem is that the pattern stops short of a real explanation. A month can line up with celebrations, routines or a change in spending habits and still have nothing concrete behind it, and that is the limit here: there is no hard evidence that Mardi Gras, graduation season or football time actually shifts Powerball odds in Louisiana. The study can show where the wins landed. It cannot show why they landed there.
So the cleanest reading is also the narrowest one. If Louisiana players are going to chase a lucky month, the study points them toward February, May and September — and away from July — but it does not turn any month into a formula. The numbers describe where the jackpots fell since 1995. They do not promise where the next one will land.
