Colombia will wear its yellow shirt against Suiza, but not with the same shorts and socks it used in the victory over Ghana in dieciseisavos del Mundial 2026. FIFA has ordered a change to the pantaloneta and medias, and the notice has already reached the kit managers before the knockout match in Vancouver.
The decision matters now because this is the first time Colombia will use a yellow shirt, white shorts and white socks at Mundial 2026, a combination that was not part of its usual path through the tournament. During the South American qualifiers, Colombia played in yellow, blue and red, and that look had become its main reference. Against Suiza, though, the assignment is different. Suiza is the local team in this series of octavos de final and will step onto Estadio BC Place in red shirt, red shorts and red socks, leaving Colombia with the altered mix.
The change is not a matter of taste. Colombia cannot use yellow shirt, blue shorts and red socks against Suiza because the contrast is judged too poor for refereeing and not ideal for TV transmission. That is why the shirt can stay while the rest must move: the shirt alone does not create enough separation once both teams are set side by side under the match regulations. Colombia had been approved in a different combination for Ghana, but that approval does not carry over automatically to this round.
Behind the ruling is article 30 of the Mundial 2026 regulations. It says FIFA will confirm the colors with the participating federations before each match, that the FIFA match director will review the choice during the coordination meeting, and that the color assignment FIFA decides will be final. In other words, the staff can prepare, but they do not get the last word. That is a clear change from the era when José Pékerman’s coaching staff used to choose the uniform themselves, before kit selection became something FIFA now analyzes for every game.
The result for Colombia is straightforward: it will face Suiza at Estadio BC Place de Vancouver, Canadá, with yellow shirt, white shorts and white socks, while Suiza keeps its traditional red. The only unresolved piece is not the color order itself, but how often a team in a knockout match can be told that the shirt is fine and everything below it must change.
