The stop gave local fans an early look at athletes preparing for the league’s first season.
It landed in the middle of a holiday stretch built around the city’s bigger celebrations, including Unity in the Community Fest on the eve of Independence Day and the annual downtown parade, festival and fireworks. For families, that meant baseball at the ballpark could sit alongside fireworks over the waterfront, a free showing of Toy Story, and the long-running Delta tradition of watching the Barron Hilton fireworks display at Mandeville Island.
The timing is what gives the Stockton stop its weight. The league is still ahead of its inaugural season, so the Countdown Tour is doing more than promoting a brand; it is asking Stockton to imagine a future in women’s professional baseball before the first game is even on the calendar. That also leaves the biggest question hanging over the holiday lineup: when the league’s first season will actually begin.
