Iga Swiatek moved through the Wimbledon second round in 70 minutes on Thursday, beating Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 6-3 to stay on track for another deep run at the tournament. The defending champion will now face Alexandra Eala for a place in the Round of 16.
That is why Swiatek is being searched now: she is one match from the last 16, and this was a cleaner outing than her opening battle. Her first-round match against Taylor Townsend went to three sets, but against Pliskova she was sharper from the start and never had to grind for long.
The numbers behind the win showed how quickly Swiatek took control. She won 26 of the 35 points in the 25-minute first set and took 7 of 9 Pliskova first-service points on the return, which left the No. 29 seed with little room to recover. The result also kept Swiatek perfect at 4-0 against Pliskova and sent her into her sixth Wimbledon third round in seven appearances.
There is still a real test waiting next. Swiatek and Eala have played twice on the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz and split those matches, so the matchup does not come with a simple read. Eala earned her place by beating Maya Joint 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, and that result carried a bit of history too: Joint had won the 2025 Eastbourne final after saving four championship points in the tiebreak before taking it 6-4, 1-6, 7-6.
Swiatek has already shown two versions of herself at Wimbledon this week — stretched to three sets once, then finished in a hurry the next time out. The question now is whether the faster, cleaner version holds again on Saturday, because Eala has already proven she can turn a match around once it settles.
