Manchester United are reportedly set to complete the sale of André Onana to Trabzonspor after talks moved quickly in the past day. The 30-year-old is expected to fly to Turkey for a medical and to finish the move in the near future, barring any last-minute complication.

The pace of the talks is what has put Onana’s future back in focus today. Turkish Football said discussions between the two clubs had “progressed rapidly,” and Trabzonspor officials were described as working tirelessly to secure a deal for a player they regard as a marquee signing for the 2026/27 campaign.

That makes the next step straightforward on paper. If the paperwork is completed, Onana should travel for his medical and sign, ending a move that would remove a high-profile goalkeeper from Manchester United’s squad and give Trabzonspor the sort of name they believe can shape their push in the coming season. For a player who joined Manchester United from Inter Milan for around £45 million in the summer of 2023 and replaced David de Gea under Erik ten Hag, the turnaround is sharp.

There is, however, one detail that does not sit neatly in the middle of the story. The move is being described as a sale, yet Trabzonspor officials are also said to be trying to secure it after his loan to the club last campaign. That leaves the basic shape of the deal still worth watching, even as club officials have largely agreed the complicated parts, including image rights and similar terms.

Manchester United’s willingness to move Onana on also fits a wider effort to raise funds and reshape the squad. Rasmus Højlund has already joined Napoli on a permanent transfer for £38 million, while Manchester United are reportedly open to offers for Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee. Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho are due to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the month. For Onana, the only real question now is whether the flight to Turkey brings a permanent departure, or another temporary arrangement dressed as something final.
