Kelly Oubre Jr. agreed to a two-year, $17 million deal with the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, a move that takes him out of Philadelphia after three seasons and gives Indiana another wing option. The agreement lands in NBA Free Agency and changes the picture for both teams at a position of need.
Oubre leaves with a strong final line for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2025-26 campaign: 14.1 points, five rebounds and 1.4 steals across 50 games, while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and a career-high 36 percent from three. He had played a steady role over the past three seasons, which is why his next step drew attention so quickly.
That attention is sharper because Oubre said he wanted to be back in Philadelphia after the season ended with a sweep against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. He said he loved the city, but also admitted he was not sure how free agency would play out. In his own words, he had learned plenty through the twists of his career and felt grateful for the chance to play there, even if the finish left him uneasy.
The fit in Indiana is easier to see on paper. The Pacers had a question mark at small forward heading into the 2026-27 season, and Oubre gives them a proven scorer who can help on both ends. Philadelphia, meanwhile, entered the offseason light on trustworthy, two-way wings, so the same move that solves one team’s need leaves the other with one fewer dependable piece.
That is what makes the deal hard to miss. Oubre wanted one ending, but free agency gave him another, and the result is a clean swap of urgency: the Pacers get a veteran wing now, while the 76ers have to replace one in a market that was already thin.
