The Toronto Maple Leafs are in contract talks with unrestricted free agent forward Colton Sissons, but nothing has been finalized. Darren Dreger reported the talks, putting the 32-year-old centre on the radar as Toronto looks at options in the open market.
Sissons is coming off a seven-year, $20 million contract with a $2.86 million cap hit, and he arrives with a long track record as a depth centre. He has 101 goals and 232 points in 756 career games split between the Nashville Predators and the Vegas Golden Knights.
That background is part of why Toronto is interested. Sissons is a 6-foot-1 centre who played 66 regular-season games for the Vegas Golden Knights last season, finishing with six goals and 11 points. He added two goals and eight points in 22 playoff games before the Vegas Golden Knights were eliminated in the Stanley Cup Final.
His path to this point has been steady rather than flashy. The Nashville Predators drafted Sissons 50th overall in 2012, and he was later acquired from the Nashville Predators, along with defenceman Jeremy Lauzon, in June of 2025 in exchange for blueliner Nicolas Hague and a draft pick. That move gave him another stop before he reached free agency, and it left him available for a new deal this summer.
The part that matters now is the part that has not happened yet. Toronto can talk, assess fit and project a role, but until a contract is signed, Sissons remains an unrestricted free agent who could still land elsewhere. For the Maple Leafs, the appeal is obvious: a veteran centre with size, playoff mileage and a recent season that showed he can still contribute in the middle of a lineup. The next step is simple, and it is the only one that counts now — whether the sides turn talks into terms.
