Michel Pereira will face Shara Magomedov in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Fiziev vs Torres, giving the Brazilian showman and the rising Dagestan-born contender a middleweight stage in Baku. The bout lands with both men trying to turn recent work into something bigger, and it puts Pereira opposite a fighter who has made clear he wants the next step after this one.
That is why Pereira is drawing interest now. He is coming off a razor-close split-decision win over Zachary Reese in February, while Magomedov arrives with a win over Marc-Andre Barriault after suffering the first loss of his MMA career to Michael Page in February 2025. The matchup is built around contrast as much as momentum: Pereira is known for backflips, spinning flying kicks and running off the cage, while Magomedov brings steady pressure and heavy hands.
Magomedov had been looking toward Pereira long before the pairing was made. He said he wanted the fight even when Pereira had won eight in a row, and he made clear that Baku is only one stop on a longer road. “This will be the third time that I’m in the co-main event, and for the next fight, I want to be in a main event,” Magomedov said, adding that he wants “a really big name” and is open to revenge with “Venom.”
There is a catch in that ambition. Magomedov also wants a rematch with Page, but first he has to get through Pereira on Saturday night. He said the loss to Page taught him that a fighter needs to be in good shape and in good health, and he added that fighters owe the fans their best. That makes the co-main event more than a style clash. It is a test of whether Magomedov can keep climbing while carrying the weight of a loss he has not forgotten.
What happens in Baku will shape both men’s next move. A Pereira win would confirm that his flashy offense still holds up against a pressure fighter. A Magomedov win would strengthen his case for the bigger-name fight and the main-event spot he wants next, even if the Page rematch remains only a goal for now.
