Pavel Dorofeyev has surfaced as a possible offer sheet target for the Ottawa Senators, a sign that one of the offseason’s more aggressive options is already in play before the draft and free agency fully arrive. The Vegas Golden Knights forward is coming off back-to-back 35-plus-goal seasons and a career-high 64 points, production that makes him far more than a depth name in a thin market.
That is why the interest is real. The Ottawa Senators have the cap space to make a fair-market move and a clear need for a top-six winger to skate with Tim Stützle, while Dorofeyev has the scoring touch they are missing. Ottawa has been searching for offense that can hold up over an 82-game season, and a young goal scorer with that kind of finish naturally draws attention when he reaches restricted free agency.
The numbers being discussed show how wide the range can be if a team decides to try. AFP Analytics projects a six-year deal at $8.9 million per season, or a shorter two-year contract at $6.2 million annually. There is also the possibility of Ottawa going even higher, with a potential offer at $9 million per season. In offer sheet terms, the value matters because the annual salary determines the compensation tier if the player declines and the original club does not match.
That is where the fit gets complicated for Vegas. The Golden Knights are already carrying 10 pending free agents this offseason, along with two restricted free agents, and they have also added right-shot defenceman Rasmus Andersson, another move that adds to the squeeze on the roster and the cap. Dorofeyev is easy to picture in Ottawa because he fills a need. He is harder to keep in Vegas because every new commitment narrows the margin.
None of that means the Senators will actually submit an offer sheet. It only means the case for trying has enough logic to keep circulating: a productive restricted free agent, a team with space, and a rival club with too many decisions already waiting. If Ottawa wants to test Vegas, Dorofeyev looks like the kind of player that would force a fast answer.
